The wind chime is closely associated with the flying star, where the number of the rod represents the element which is present in the wind chime.

For example of the material of the wind chime is metal, and there is 5 rods, this means that the wind chime is a earth-metal wind chime.

It is not so much that solid wind chime or even that say star 5 wind chime is not useful. You have to be careful as to where you are putting it. If place correctly, the element influence which you are looking for will remove the inauspicious influence based on the element composition of the wind chime.
